North Colonie Schools are Renowned for Outstanding Academic Achievement
The North Colonie School District is ranked 3rd in the Capital Region taking into account 5 categories: Language and reading; social studies; science; math; and a category that measures graduation rates, the percentage of graduates who plan to attend college and the percentage of students who graduated with advanced Regents diplomas. The North Colonie school district holds its faculty, staff members, and students to high performance standards, resulting in one of the Capital Region’s best quality educations, graduating some of the area’s brightest students.
North Colonie’s student population is comprised of 5,400 children. Students Kindergarten through sixth grade attend one of our six elementary schools, move on to Shaker Junior High School for grades seven and eight, and Shaker High School for grades nine through 12. In 2015, 94 percent of students graduated within four years of beginning high school, 98 percent of students received a Regents Diploma, and 66 percent received an Advanced Regents Diploma.

The North Colonie School District and Students Have Received Numerous Awards
Leadership – North Colonie School District Shaker High School seniors Audrey Martino and Paul Nichols have been named the recipients of the 2016 NYS Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Capital Zone Leadership Awards. The students were recognized for setting the bar high in their physical education classes and serving as role models for their classmates.
Physical Education Leadership Awards – North Colonie School District Shaker High seniors, Chantel Mochon, Steven Wood, and Malik Raheel Ahmed, who are Physical Education Leadership award recipients. The students were recognized at the Secondary Physical Education Leadership Awards Banquet, hosted by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Capital Zone. The students earned the award by setting the bar high in their physical education classes and serving as role models to their classmates.
National School Public Relation Awards – North Colonie School District has been awarded two distinguished achievement awards from the National School of Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for the district’s full-day kindergarten video and for the 2014-15 district calendar publication, “Faces of our Future.”
40 Under Forty Future Business Leader Award – North Colonie School District Shaker High School senior Sean Stiso, has been named one of The Albany Business Review’s “40 Under Forty Future Business Leaders” award recipients for 2015. Stiso was nominated by Shaker High School business teacher, Mr. Richard Heim.
National Music Education Award – For the 5th year in a row, North Colonie has been designated as one of the Best Communities for Music Education, a national honor. Winning districts set the bar in offering students access to comprehensive music education. More than 2,000 schools and school districts participated in this year’s survey.
NYSSMA Presidential Award – In 2013, North Colonie was the recipient of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) 2013 Presidential Citation, the only school district statewide to receive the honor that year. The award is presented to select New York State school districts for their dedication and commitment to a quality music education.

Sports – Shaker High School is a member of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, competing as a Class A/AA school in Section II. Our league affiliation is with the Suburban Scholastic Council. There are 29 Varsity level sport offerings including 15 levels for boys, and 14 levels for girls.
Shaker High School offers more than 80 levels (Modified, Frosh, J.V., Varsity) of interscholastic competition for our students in grades 7-12. We believe that participation in sports provides a wealth of opportunities and experiences which assist students in their secondary education. Interscholastic athletics serve as a miniature model of life, providing opportunities for students with regard to responsibility, fair play, cooperation, concern for others, leadership, respect for coaches and all authority figures, good citizenship, loyalty, and tolerance.
